Tips for Preparing your Home for a Photo Shoot
A few days before the photo shoot...
1. Eliminate ALL clutter.
- Remove everything off counter tops, tables, and desks. Wipe those surfaces down.
- Remove magnets, notes, and artwork from the refrigerator and other appliances.
- Make sure there are no piles of clothes, shoes, jackets etc. (Hide all of these in a closet).
- Ensure that there are no dishes in the sink
- Remove all personal items out in the bathroom. counter and shower.
2. Make all the beds.
3. Open all the window treatments to maximize natural light.
4. Remove the majority of personal items (e.g. photos), surplus furniture and most artwork.
5. Sweep, dust, vacuum, mop and wax floors (so they shine).
6. Remove all vehicles from driveway and front of home.
7. Hide trash bins, grills, "cute" lawn ornaments, lawn equipment, tarps, and other debris.
8. Sweep and clean up leaves.
Right before the photo shoot...
9. Put all toilet lids down.
10. Pick up all pet items and make sure the pets are some place safe during the photo shoot.
11. Turn off all TVs, computers, and fans.
12. Turn on ALL lights. (Make sure all the bulbs are working.)
Other ideas...
Consider putting out a vase of fresh flowers, nice place settings on the dining room table, and guest towels in the bathroom. Before a home visit, hide valuable items and consider using a air scent (spray, wax etc).
